Are There Some Common Themes About Our Dreams?

“When you have a dream that you can’t let go of, trust your instincts and pursue it. But remember: Real dreams take work, They take patience, and sometimes they require you to dig down very deep. Be sure you’re willing to do that.”

Common Themes to Dreams?

I was recently thinking about dreams, my dreams, friends’ dreams, your dreams and came up with this question: Are there common themes to most dreams? I wasn’t looking for some hard and fast study that said what they might be but the question intrigued me.

As I thought about the question, remembered books I’ve read, people I’ve talked to, and as I searched the categories on this blog and looked at those that had the most posts, I came up with some ideas.

The following seem to be common  when it comes to dreams: Risk, Adventure, Change, Daring, Encouragement, Relationships, Perseverance, Regret, Comfort.

Some Thoughts About Common Themes to Our Dreams.

Risk/Daring: Following a dream means taking risks of some type. It’s helpful to identify them on paper and make a plan of how to deal with them.

Adventure/Change: To follow a dream means giving up a comfortable life for one of adventure and potential aliveness one has not known before.  That’s connected with risk and daring.

Encouragement/Relationships: Along the way to following a dream, we will need encouragement and the support of others. It doesn’t have to be a lot of people. Even one or two others will be helpful.

Perseverance: Following a dream will take perseverance. We will be tempted to stop many times. That’s where encouragement comes in.

Regret: In the end we will have more regrets about things we didn’t do rather than about things we did do. Realizing that will help us to persevere, take the risk, make the change, leave the comfortable and embark on a great adventure.

Do these common themes reflect you and your dreams? Why or why not?
